Ms. Ramirez: Chicago, IL, United States; I am an educator in the Chicago Public Schools, a 2011 Golden Apple fellow, and a Nationally Board Certified Teacher in Early Adolescent English Language Arts. I teach 6th/7th/8th grade reading and/or writing, and sometimes science/social studies, depending on the year. I have completed a CFE action research and Teach Plus teaching policy fellowships. I have served as First Vice-Chair of the Golden Apple Academy of Educators, and on Advance Illinois' Educator Advisory Council and on occasion, am fortunate enough to work with The High Jump Program Committee. I have hosted teaching residents from my alma mater UChicago's UTEP. Before COVID-19, I loved reading & writing in coffeeshops and the occasional travel to new places... Now, I enjoy reading and writing on my porch and dream of future travel when I’m not making small contributions (donations, emails, petitions, research, education) to issues that matter to the BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities. I work to help students find their voice and understand the power of their words. I hope students leave my classes feeling seen and heard.
